Did you get a ukulele for Christmas this year or have you had one sitting around and didn't know how to get started? Or have you simply wanted to learn? Come to our Ukulele Jumpstart workshop series and learn everything you need to know to begin your musical journey on the ukulele!

 

Over four 1-hour sessions, members of Altoona's ukulele club (The Allegheny Ukes) will teach you basic chords, strumming patterns, some simple songs, and even a little music theory! You won't come out of the course an expert, but you certainly will know enough to play your favorite songs or to keep up with the Allegheny Ukes at a jam session!

 

The dates of this workshop series are on the following Thursdays: 1/12, 1/19, 2/26, & 2/2. Please mark your calendars! We will reschedule in the case of adverse weather conditions.

 

This workshop series is geared towards adults & mature teens ages 15+. If you already have a ukulele, please bring it * . Otherwise, we have plenty of ukes to loan!

 

The 4-week workshop series is limited to 10 learners and will require a minimum of 5 . If the minimum number of attendees hasn't been reached by the cutoff date, we will cancel the workshop series & give full refunds. If we have sufficient interest, we may open a second section!

 

* Please note: in the past, some attendees have brought ukuleles which weren't in good enough condition to use for learning purposes. If you bring a uke and our instructor(s) determines it deficient in some way, you may be asked to use one of our loaner ukes during the class.

Week 1 - History of the instrument, positioning & tuning, how to read a chord chart, chords vs. notes, C & F Chords
Week 2 - Review of week 1, more chords, strum patterns, simple songs
Week 3 - Review of week 2, more chords (if ready), more complex songs
Week 4 - Review of week 3, advanced chords, strum-a-long
